BROWSE: The Broad Categorization of Categories or Group of Categories.

At Prodx, Browse is the flexible grouping layer above individual product categories— designed to reflect how shoppers naturally explore and navigate product sets. It's not static taxonomy. It's a purposeful data structure that powers discovery, search, and substitution logic at scale.

Why Browse Structure Matters

Because Browse hierarchies are standardized, you can aggregate performance data at any level; from a single Category all the way up to a top-level Browse.

Flat Taxonomies Break Discovery

When product hierarchies are just one layer deep, shoppers hit dead ends. There is no structure to roll up products into relevant groupings, so browsing becomes guesswork.

Fragmented Navigation Loses Shoppers

Without a consistent Browse layer, navigation is inconsistent across departments. The same product appears under five different paths, or not at all, depending on the source system.

Search Can't Infer Category Context

Search engines without a Browse foundation cannot understand the difference between Coffee as a product and Coffee as a category group. Context collapses. Relevance suffers.

How Browse Works

Browse structures are built bottom-up, starting from specific categories and rolling into higher-level groupings:
01
Organize Substitutable Categories Together
Browse groups Categories that naturally serve as alternatives for each other. Shoppers browsing "Coffee" see the full landscape of relevant choices, not an arbitrary subset.
02
Roll Up Products Into Shopper-Relevant Groupings
Browse structures build bottom-up. A product in "Coffee K-Cups" rolls up through Coffee, Coffee & Creamer, Beverages, and Food & Beverage — giving each layer meaning for navigation and analytics.
03
Power Discovery Paths and Search
Every Browse is a navigable path. Search engines and browse experiences use these structures to return contextually correct results, ranked by category depth and relevance.
